Description
What steps will reproduce the problem?
- Play any wii game
- Press "Home" on your wiimote/classic controller
- Try out the Wii Menu and Reset options
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected output is exactly what happens actually, since I know the wii menu
is not emulated in dolphin, and can't be shipped since its copyrighted and
all that jazz.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Any version that supports the wiimote and can play Wii games.
Please provide any additional information below.
I think it would be neat for now if dolphin could just catch the IOS calls
that send the Wii back to the system menu (or turn it off) and have it stop
emulation when this happens in the normal way that emulation is stopped.
What would be even more epic would be to let users rip their own Wii Menu
from their wii, and then emulate that when a Wii disc was loaded. (Possibly
with an option to boot into the Wii menu or go straight into the game, but
allowing the Wii menu to work from the home menu in game.) I don't think
this is a realistic goal at all, since the Wii Menu likely does lots of
hardware initialization when it loads up that probably isn't emulated
properly, but it would be a neat side goal when Wii emulation is more stable.
I really hate it that people use these internet-speak type of words like, "epic".
Didn't you get the memo, the word epic is not epic to use anymore. Just say it would
be cool or awesome instead, and talk as if you were talking to a person right
in-front of you. Having said that, I do hope you do not go around saying the word
"epic" in real life. Nothing says I'm a 15 year old kid who uses the internet like
the word "epic", so enough with that already.
Sorry about this unrelated post, it was bugging me for a long while. :)
I'd really like something like this - not going to comment on how difficult it would
be to make possible though! Even if it just displayed a pause message, or something to
that effect. Regarding the unrelated post above by Tommy, it's actually more socially
acceptable where I live to use 'epic' than it is to use 'cool' and 'awesome'.
@tommy: I disagree entirely, it depends entirely on your circle of friends. For
example, there is "fail" and then for very rare and darwin-award worthy
circumstances, "epic fail". Epic is a word to be used with extreme caution, to be
reserved for only the most extreme of circumstances or situations. In this case, I'm
using "epic" to describe my understanding that actually accomplishing the feat I
described with the adjective would be incredibly difficult for the Dolphin team to
pull off, and would likely invite lots of praise. Heck, if they can make the Wii Menu
work fully, its a sign that their emulation is just that accurate, and its not really
right now.

Anyway, the real fix (of an emulation exit) is much more doable, and is the intended
purpose of the post, as it doesn't make sense to let the emulator jump knowingly into
code that doesn't exist. I'm fairly certain its an IOS call to reset the wii or jump
back to the menu, so it should be fairly simple to hook it if the IOS is being
emulated. If its not, then we may just get to deal with it. ^_^ Its just a suggestion
after all.
yup, someone needs to check if it is an ios call, or a low level reset (like on
gamecube)...
Dolphin doesn't emulate either at the moment :p

The reset menu work fine only with Zelda Twilight Princess. And the Wii Menu maybe
doesn't work becouse doesn't find the file of the WiiMenu in the system (correct
folder)
Games that work with reset wii :
-Super Mario Galaxy
-Zelda Tp
-Link's Crossbow Training
-Wii Sports and Music
-Mario Kart Wii
-Animal Crossing Let's go to the City
I don't know if work with other game. With Re4, Smash Bros Brawl and other games
does "not" work...
A game more that work :
-Resident Evil 4 (with LLE Plugin, that fix all the game :) )
For me it doesn't work for any of the games on this list... and I've been testing in so many revisions since ~4700
Home > Wii Menu works with (at least) r6176. Reset still hangs; my guess is because the requested title is not on the NAND, but on the disc.
just updating title, dunno if issue still exists (probably does...)
it seems that this is just the es_launch issue
Games that do not reload their ios work (SMG1/2)
Games that reload ios < 30 work correctly
Games that reload ios > 30 go to a black screen 0fps and fail
A game that does not work, Resident Evil Chronicles Zero. It freezes even if you reset the game from the options menu in game.
Issue 5412 has been merged into this issue.
Just compiled the ES_LAUNCH branch. it works.
