What's the problem?

I got the Deluxe (Color) Pictobox. Went through the cutscene with Lenzo, appears as the Deluxe Pictobox in the menu, and the pictures appear in color. But when you attempt to use them, characters reject them as if they were black-and-white - taken with the standard Pictobox. This occurs most notably trying to show the picture of a chick to a dude so they'll go out on a date and give you a piece of heart, he either doesn't like the picture ("that's awful, who's it even of?") or says "oh, you have a pictograph.. you should see Lenzo". Not sure which of these is the B&W rejection and which is the bad picture one. In the Nintendo Gallery, the guy says he "can't use this".

Use the "Have Deluxe Pictobox" cheat and viola, problem solved.
