Description

  1. Game Name and ID (as it appears in right click > properties: "GZ2P01", "RSBE01", etc):
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Game ID: GZLP01

1) What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
After the speech cutscene after the first encounter with the Great Deku Tree, the expected output is that the game will continue. Instead, the emulator renders a black screen.

2) Did the game ever work correctly (i.e. not have this problem) on an
earlier version of dolphin?
(If so, please specify the latest revision that worked.)
It worked in an earlier version, I can't remember exactly, but I think it was a revision around r7400, earlier or later...

3) What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. Play the storyline up to the Great Deku Tree.
  2. Complete the cutscene with the Tree.
  3. After the Tree finishes his speech and you are supposed to get the leaf, the emulator stops rendering.
  4. The emulator does not fully crash, FPS is 30 and VPS is 50.

4) What version of dolphin are you using (32bit/64bit along with the
version as it appears in the title bar: "R 4779", "R 6403M", "3.0", etc)?

64-bit R7690M.

On what operating system, drivers, and hardware? Be sure to list OS,
graphics driver information, and video card model if you are having
graphics problems, for example.

64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium, nVidia GeForce GTS 360M 1GB 275.33 drivers (latest), Intel Core i5 M430 2.27 GHz

Does this happen with the 3.0 stable release?

One tip is to use StateSaves.

Actions #2

I will check the 3.0 stable release when I get home. I have a regular save and a save state just before the cutscene and it stops rendering using both saves on r7690.

OK!

Save State press Shift + F1 and and load the Save State press F1.

Dolphin Stable 3.0 64-bit works perfectly. It also seems that there is a speed-up between that version and the current working version.

Loading the save state that I made on 3.0 in r7690 loads fine. Loading the memory card save takes me back to the entrance to the island, with the cutscene finished and area accessible.

As a side note, after beating the Deku Tree area, and the ending cutscene plays, the emulator stops again, I have updated to the current revision, r7695.

I would also like to add that the music plays in this cutscene in 3.0 and does not play in the current revision. Could this be from the added DSP?

The Stable 3.0 version? It's in the downloads tab at the top of the page.

The only time i had this issue in WW was when i was Using JITIL Experimental Recompiler. After i Switched back to JIT Recompiler (recommended) i was perfectly fine.

I have double checked that I am using the JIT recompiler (recommended) setting.

This freeze is related to music playback in some way. When I play through this section normally, I've noticed that none of the music playing during the deku tree monologue. If you save state at the beginning of the monologue, and then load it, music plays properly. At the end of the monologue, the game then proceeds properly. If the music does not play, it always hangs.

crono, nice observation. Are you using LLE or HLE DSP emulation?

Actions #14

Updated by crono141 about 13 years ago

At the time, I used only HLE.

I had this same issue. I took your advice about the sound issue, and disable audio output, I was then able to pass that part, created a savestate, restarted the emulator and enabled audio and continued to play as normal.

What are your other settings ElKamel? I cant get it to work with the audio fix that was recommended.

It still doesn't work for me on 3.0 64 bit. It freezes to a black screen right after the Deku tree...

I solved this problem by going back and using dolphin "r6503"

I know I'm late to this party, but I just got through this part by following El.Kamel's advice. But I couldn't use save states, I had to quit, disable audio, and go back to the game-save at the beginning of the island. I made it through with no audio, then made a savestate after the cutscene. Thanks!

This issue also happened to me using emulator version 3.0-828. I was able to get through the cutscene after disabling audio.

Still happens in 3.5 stable release. I'm using default settings (HLE, JIT recompiler, auto framelimit). I tried switching around a number of settings but it still won't get past. Eventually, I had to back up to my memory card state in order to use LLE. However, even with LLE it would keep freezing at certain parts unless I uncheck the option to put it on another thread. After doing that though, the game was incredibly slow throughout. As soon as the cutscene was over, I had to go back to HLE. System: Phenom II 965 x4 3.4GHz, 4GB RAM, HD 5750, Win7x64, dolphin 3.5 release.

I noticed that in 3.5 release, during the cinematic, some sound fx was missing, and then it crashes... Probably an audio issue. I downloaded a previous version of dolphin (r6503), and it solved the problem. Then I copy my GC save files to 3.5 folder, and all is working well now. Thx =D

sorry for bad english ^^"

SOLVED. making a save file before the WHOLE monologue solved the problem for me.(Outside the cave). As close to the cutscene as possible. I tried solving this for about 3hours and my save was at the end of the monologue. I tried everything from LLE and Frame: auto etc / patch. everything. But the problem is that the audio and the frames are out of sync. so if you make a save-file as close to the whole monologue as possible (when you bomb the wall with last bomb) you will be able to continue on your WW journey.
