Emulator Issues #8047
closedWiiU Gamecube adapter support. C-Stick is unreliable
0%
Description
Game Name?
Smash Bros Brawl
Star Fox Assault
Game ID?
What's the problem? Describe what went wrong in few words.
Using the wiiu gamecube adapter, the C stick seems to have a variety of issues. In smash bros brawl (or project m) it doesn't register most of the c stick for attacks (works fine in menus), and in star fox, it is always aiming down.
What did you expect to happen instead?
Smash bros: 100% reliable attacks when using
Star Fox Assault: stable aiming when cstick is neutral
What steps will reproduce the problem?
[Don't assume we have ever played the game and know any level names. Be as
specific as possible.]
1.Installed the adapter using zadig and followed the instructions for dolphin compatibility
2. Play some gamecube controller compatibible games and try them out in-game
Dolphin 3.5 and 3.5-367 are old versions of Dolphin that have
known issues and bugs, so don't report issues about them and test the
latest Dolphin version first.
Which versions of Dolphin did you test on?
4701, 4594
Does using an older version of Dolphin solve your issue? If yes, which
versions of Dolphin used to work?
No
What are your PC specifications? (including, but not limited to: Operating
System, CPU and GPU)
Windows7, GTX 760
Is there any other relevant information? (e.g. logs, screenshots,
configuration files)

-The controller is the new official white ones being made
-I uninstalled the original drivers that were used with the adapter (the ones that used vjoy)
-The issues seem familiar to the deadzone being too small on the cstick, but they can't be edited as of now since this is directly inputted to dolphin instead of editing controls.
(hope that helps! It runs beautifully otherwise!)

Do you get 100% reliable attacks if you use another controller like an xbox 360 controller?

It's 100% if I can config the controller as normal. But since the wiiu gc adapter bypasses the input (as in, you can't edit the buttons, or play around with its deadzones), it's stuck with interpreting the controller as it does. When installing the adapter with toadking's driver, it worked perfectly with the cstick having a deadzone of 10 (but no rumble, bongo support). When it was set to 0, it gave similar issues from memory, so I think it's only a deadzone problem that can't be edited as a user.

Do you have another controller other than a GC pad to test with? One that can be configured in Dolphin like a USB gamepad? Or do you have a mayflash gc to usb adapter? The reason why I am asking is that there was another earlier change made to the Dolphin input system where Dolphin forces games to poll for inputs less often than they can on the real hardware.

Just tested with a 360 gamepad with smash bros. When the right stick deadzone was set to 0, it was practically unusable. But setting it to 10, it behaved as expected.

I have 2 Gamecube Smash Controllers. The strange thing is that one of them works flawlessly while the other one has this problem. I noticed on the one with the problem that if you hold the c-stick slightly down and then move it all the way to any direction it usually does the smash attacks in Brawl (same with Project M). It feels like the C-stick isn't well calibrated but then it works with the other games that I tested including Melee (didn't test Starfox Assault). With the drivers that used vJoy both worked flawlessly (with the default settings). Changing the size of the Deadzone seems like the best solution to this problem.

When I tested it with brawl, in the main menu was odd. The cstick was tilted to the side constantly, and the main analogue stick was flicking between the menus constantly.
I'll test it with more games though.
