Description

Game Name?

All

Game ID? (right click the game in the game list, properties, info tab)

n/a

MD5 Hash? (right click the game in the game list, properties, info tab, MD5 Hash: Compute)

n/a

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong.

Sometimes game inis aren't up to date to the wiki. Dolphin should scan the wiki page for a game for updated information, and use it if found. This may require datestamping the ini files to prevent conflicts.

What steps will reproduce the problem?

n/a

Which versions of Dolphin did you test on? Does using an older version of Dolphin solve your issue? If yes, which versions of Dolphin used to work?

n/a

What are your PC specifications? (CPU, GPU, Operating System, more)

n/a

Is there any other relevant information? (e.g. logs, screenshots,
configuration files)

n/a

A better (Albeit more complex) solution would be to let the user rate compatibility in Dolphin then request permission to send the INI back to dolphin-emu.org.

This would:

  • Automate user testing building a database of game and their working configurations
  • Make the rating an average across configurations as opposed to last person to edit the Wiki
  • Record the version compatibility over time again a manual process at the moment
  • Help to identify known issues (e.g 95% of people giving 1 star due to a game INI default) or at the very least help to identify why a game is consistently low scoring for compatibility

Problems:

  • Complexity in implementation (I have no idea on the code required)
  • Database server-side (Ratings can be rotated to keep only last x results)
  • Compatibility issues still need to be recorded (Screenshots, videos, etc)
  • Everything would have to be modified to remove Wiki as source of truth for ratings

Don't see this happening.

If some chucklefuck decides to edit the wiki and break formatting, they break Dolphin for everybody.

Even if weirdos didn't instabreak the formatting on the wiki, they can still put in stupid values and break games for everybody. MaJoR, JMC, Kolano and company do their best to quality control this but the sheer number of games make keeping it perfect 24/7 impossible.

High latency connections or server problems on our end would make Dolphin's UI seem really slow.

As for the reply above, that sounds really complex and a lot less reasonable than the system we have now. The system we have now is git. I don't see how that's such a bad system. A user makes their INI changes, makes a commit in git on their local fork, make a PR. We then get review by people who know these games in Dolphin well (Usually JMC), and we get much better quality control.

There has been some ideas to use a web system instead of using git and shipping INIs with Dolphin, but regardless, the fact that we need quality control remains. We can't just use the wiki.
