Emulator Issues #10065
openMovie playback with Bounding Box games desync on different GFX settings
0%
Description
Game Name?
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Game ID? (right click the game in the game list, properties, info tab)
G8MJ01
What's the problem? Describe what went wrong.
Playing back a movie file created with different graphics settings from what the movie file was created with will cause desyncs.
For example, a movie file created with native resolution and no enhancements will not play back properly if trying to run with either a different resolution or any other type of enhancement (shaders are fine).
This is most definitely related to the bounding box changes prior to 5.0 release.
What steps will reproduce the problem?
Record a movie file for a bounding box enabled game (make sure it's of some length)
Stop emulation and save the movie file
Change graphics settings to different settings from what was used to record the movie file
Playback the movie file
The movie should desync at some point during playback.
This can also be reproduced by playing back this TAS for Paper Mario: TTYD with non-default graphics settings: http://tasvideos.org/5366S.html
Which versions of Dolphin did you test on? Does using an older version of Dolphin solve your issue? If yes, which versions of Dolphin used to work?
Dolphin 5.0

Please motivate why this is a bug rather than a natural side effect.

I guess it's more of a usability thing than an outright bug, but this wasn't an issue before the bounding box changes were made. Users usually expect graphics settings to not matter when playing back movie files, and expect Dolphin to sync the settings for them so that it can play back properly.
