Description

Game Name?

Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie

Game ID? (right click the game in the game list, properties, info tab)

GWKE41

MD5 Hash? (right click the game in the game list, properties, info tab, MD5 Hash: Compute)

8ac57d2645ed752a491bd9f88703d394

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong.

At the first level after the boat ride intro, Dunham and Ann would often not render properly, with Dunham only having his torso or legs, and Ann's upper body glitching into a giant mass of artifacts. The level also often freezes, with a loud buzzing sound.

What steps will reproduce the problem?

Start the second selectable level.

Is the issue present in the latest development version? For future reference, please also write down the version number of the latest development version.

5.0-8490

Is the issue present in the latest stable version?

Did not have Dolphin 5.0 installed and internet was fairly slow, so was unable to download and test.

If the issue isn't present in the latest stable version, which is the first broken version? (You can find the first broken version by bisecting. Windows users can use the tool https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-green-notice-development-thread-unofficial-dolphin-bisection-tool-for-finding-broken-builds and anyone who is building Dolphin on their own can use git bisect.)

Not sure.

If your issue is a graphical issue, please attach screenshots and record a three frame fifolog of the issue if possible. Screenshots showing what it is supposed to look like from either console or older builds of Dolphin will help too. For more information on how to use the fifoplayer, please check here: https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=FifoPlayer

Didn't know how to get the FifoPlayer working, but the two screenshots included depict the graphical bugs of that section, where Carl Dunham, the film director guy, only rendered his lower half and Ann Darrow glitches up the entire screen after moving a bit.

What are your PC specifications? (CPU, GPU, Operating System, more)

CPU: Intel Core i7-4720HQ 2.6GHz

GPU: Nvidia 980M

OS: Windows 10

Is there anything else that can help developers narrow down the issue? (e.g. logs, screenshots,
configuration files, savefiles, savestates)

Two screenshots showing the graphical bugs.

I played through the entire opening level, fought some crab/spider things, and then got to a cutscene showing a map update. How long do I have to play for the game to have issues?

I also was playing on single core because dualcore is lol.

Apologies for the delay, but I finally tested it on Dolphin 5.0 and it doesn't have the issue, so one of the dev or beta builds must have broken it.

I literally tested it on the latest development builds of the time and it wasn't broken.

Please try some settings and whatnot.

Odd, what settings were you using? I tried messing around with my various different settings and the bugs were still there. The main thing to look for is noticing that Carl Dunham, after you wash up on shore, either doesn't show up or is only half loaded, whether it's his torso or leg.

I just used Single Core because dualcore is essentially a feature that breaks games for speed.

I tried using that when you mentioned it and it still breaks. The only time the game works properly is when I play it on the stable Dolphin 5.0 release. The current development build has the same graphical bugs.

Can you bisect then? That should be easy to find out when it broke it for you.

Dolphin Bisect seems to crash for me when I try to get a build a second time. The first time, it tested Dolphin 5.0-4428 or something around that, and that also didn't have the issue. When it attempted to load 5.0-6something, it just crashes, so the question of whether the bug was there or not was a pointless answer as I couldn't answer it.

I opened Fifoplayer, clicked Record, clicked save, and here's what I have. I don't exactly know if this is what people was talking about, but I got 3 frames of this for King Kong, with Carl Dunham missing his legs.

Does this issue happen in interpreter?

Actions #11

I wouldn't know. I tried it but it's so slow that I can't even get there to check.

I just want to update this that, while changing the backend to OpenGL seems to have fixed my graphical bugs with Heatseeker now (for whatever reason), none of the backends fix the bugs for King Kong.

  • Status changed from New to Questionable

I've never been able to reproduce this issue and I've probably played more of this game than I'd ever wanted to. Do you have any cheats enabled or other settings? Do you have any other ideas as for things I can try?
