Description

Game Name?

Pokémon Colosseum

Game ID? (right click the game in the game list, Properties, Info tab)

GC6P01

MD5 Hash? (right click the game in the game list, Properties, Verify tab, Verify Integrity button)

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong.

Certain notes in the Semifinal Battle theme sound wrong on LLE audio without the DSP firmware files.

What steps will reproduce the problem?

Go to any colosseum in the game, get to the third fight and listen. Mt. Battle should also work if you can access areas 7 and onwards. Compare with youtube uploads if needed.

Is the issue present in the latest development version? For future reference, please also write down the version number of the latest development version.

Probably, tested on 5.0-14853. The latest revision at the time of writing this is 5.0-14862 and there's been no changes to de DSP code afaik.

Is the issue present in the latest stable version?

It's probably always been an issue.

If the issue isn't present in the latest stable version, which is the first broken version? (You can find the first broken version by bisecting. Windows users can use the tool https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-green-notice-development-thread-unofficial-dolphin-bisection-tool-for-finding-broken-builds and anyone who is building Dolphin on their own can use git bisect.)

What are your PC specifications? (CPU, GPU, Operating System, more)

6600K
16GB DDR4 (2333 I think)
1060 3GB

Didn't test on my main computer, since I do have the DSP files there and had never encountered this.

Is there anything else that can help developers narrow down the issue? (e.g. logs, screenshots,
configuration files, savefiles, savestates)

HLE doesn't seem to have this specific problem though iirc there's still some issues with the HLE code that affect Colosseum, so I guess the only way to get perfect audio emulation on that game is LLE + firmware files. I guess it's not really a bug, since the firmware fixes this, but it would be nice to have it listed on the wiki.

  • Subject changed from Pokémon Colosseum with LLE audio needs DSP firmware for perfect sound to Reverse Engineered DSP-LLE ROM - Incorrect Music in Pokemon Colosseum

I kinda renamed this to make it easier to understand. Please provide examples recorded from Dolphin for developers who don't have the game to identify things, since this game is kind of expensive now and not all developers will have it.

Ok. I'll get back to you with the recordings.

Here's both recordings. I'll upload some timestamps in a couple of minutes.

Ok, here's the timestamps.

  • 0:20 - French Horn's first note's volume is lower than it should be. This only happens on the first loop.
  • 0:25 - French Horn's barely audible again.
  • 0:37 - French Horn is, again, barely audible. This issue repeats throughout this section at least twice at 0:44 and 0:46 (Right before 0:47).
  • 0:48 - Strings and French Horn get muted suddenly.
  • 0:56 - Guitar's first note is muted. There's a far quieter guitar note that starts later than the usual one does which belongs to an extra channel used to simulate delay (checked with a midi file ripped from the game).
  • 1:04 - Same thing again.
  • 1:30 - Synth Brass seems to stop early (it should last about two more seconds). Delay channel seems to work fine again.
  • 1:44 - Missing note at 0:25 plays just fine this time around.
  • 2:01 - At almost 2:02 strings don't sustain for as long as they should.
  • 2:13 - French Horn gets muted again.
  • 2:15 - Guitar section is, again, extremely broken.

Provide a savestate or something because the fucking AI cheats and I'm tired of their bullshit.

Okay, note to anyone else on this issue. Main Menu Colosseum Battles cheat like bastards and don't have the different music. In-game Colosseums do and are easier.

Updated by FireNX70 over 2 years ago

Sorry, I forgot to specify I was talking about story mode colosseums. Anyway, I'm uploading two save files. Both are from the PAL version so I don't know how useful they'll be. One of them is in the Mt. Battle lobby. All you have to do is talk to the woman in blue and select continue and then select any area from 7 onwards. The other one's at the Pyrite colosseum. Just spam Psychic with Espeon and Flamethrower/Crunch with Houndoom till you get to the third fight.

The problem is that our free DSP ROM uses too many cycles. Not sure whether it's worth fixing this tbh.

  • Status changed from New to Won't fix

We're not likely to continue fixing it to be cycle accurate, and DSP-HLE now plays the music correctly.
