What's the problem? Describe what went wrong.
Playing a Super Mario Galaxy TAS recording made with the GameCube controller enabled but disconnected is not possible.
I have also tested the same procedure with Wii Party, here it works.
As an error message you get the following when playing the recording: Warning: Change disc to.
What steps will reproduce the problem?
- Enable a GameCube Controller, but select a physical controller that is disconnected.
- Record a new TAS recording with Super Mario Galaxy and save it.
- Play the TAS recording using "Movie > Play Input Recording...".
Now the following warning appears: "Change disc to". After clicking OK, the window remains black and the recording is not played.
Is the issue present in the latest development version? For future reference, please also write down the version number of the latest development version.
5.0-16793
Is the issue present in the latest stable version?
No, because in 5.0 the possibility to keep a disconnected controller did not exist yet.

That "error" message you see is simply the disc change prompt when Dolphin cannot find the "second disc" set in the DTM. Which likely indicates a simple desync occured, and Wiimote inputs were interpreted as GameCube inputs (and the bit for changing disc was set).

It shouldn't yes. Although it's probable it's not the fault of having a "disconnected controller" but rather this game being desync'y in general. Especially as your description says this does not happen with Wii Party. Does leaving the controller connected not have an issue?

No, leaving the controller Connected has the same issue.
I have now found out that something completely different is the cause. Namely, the file "SYSCONF" under "Documents\Dolphin Emulator\Wii\shared2\sys". If I rename the "sys" folder so that it is regenerated, the problem no longer occurs.

Sounds like you had a Wiimote reporting mode desync then. Unfortunately there's not much we can do about this with the existing DTM format.
