Description
What steps will reproduce the problem?
- Load Game
- Play to a savable point (or just change settings in options menu and
choose save)
- Watch it die.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Obviously I would expect to be able to continue playing after I choose to
save but instead it sits there with a text bubble containing no text, also
the emulator doesn't crash and I can even load a save-state at this point.
It just seems to refuse to go past the game saving portion.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
SVN R 4460 (32bit) on Windows XP Pro SP3
Please provide any additional information below.
Using the Direct X plugin (because for some reason it looks and works
better than OGL these days). Running it on an AMD Phenom II 3.1ghz
Dual-Core w/ 2gig DDR3 1666 and a GeForce 8600 GT. I am attaching a
screenshot of what it looks like after save.
I apparently jumped the gun on this one, seems that even if I choose not to save, if
I try to "continue" without it, it freezes as well with the same screen problem. No
idea what's going on at this point (considering I've read around the net that this
game is pretty much working with occasional random crashes). If anyone has an idea
and/or would like me to try something, let me know. I am no programmer, but I am
fairly competent with a PC (both windows and linux).
What version of Pikmin2 are you running, NTSC or PAL? I had encountered a few errors
with the NTSC version but was able to play through flawlessly in the PAL version in
R3972
If you could test on revisions from the past week or 2 and find when it broke, it would
be helpful (if it really did work before).
Alright, after a fair bit of research and testing this morning I found some
interesting data for you (which is hopefully helpful). First off, I tested these
using my original scenario which consists of attempting to create a save file through
the options menu (because it's faster and produced the same results as in game).
First I checked around the net for pikmin2 and dolphin and came across a post here
regarding the sound but no bug report of the game not saving so I started with the
closest version that guy used which did work. All builds I tried were compiled by
"Orleans" from the forums (thanks guy). I jumped a few at first to try and narrow
down the area I needed to test.
4347 Save works
Skipped 4357,4371,4384,4395 (most likely working after testing 4405)
4405 Save works
4415 Save works
4425 Save works
4435 Save works
4446 Fails
4460 Fails (current build from website)
For good measure: 4519 Fails (highest build I could get)
Seems to me it broke between 4435 and 4446, hope that helps. Also just to be clear,
all these versions were tested with dual-core enabled with D3D + Njoy plugins, all
other settings were left alone for consistency. Also, I should probably mention
(J.I.C.) that all versions prior to the failure point produced D3D errors before
start but worked fine.
Additionally, I will leave all these versions on my drive in their current states in
case you wish me to test anything in particular in them and continue to watch this
thread.
Great! If possible, testing on these revisions would narrow it down to the exact one
which has the problem:
4437
4441
4442
4445
So far I've found 4437, which does work. I am having a hell of a time trying to track
down compiled versions of 4441,4442 and 4445. I found one of 4443(?) but it was
poorly compiled and crashed no matter what game I tried to run so I couldn't get
anything out of it. Atleast we can add 4437 as a working one. If I can find more I
will let you know.
Is your Pikmin 2 a Wii version, or a Gamecube version?
Wow. For some reason I didn't think compiling this thing myself would have been so
easy, I've compiled linux software numerous times but having windows fail on me so
many times just using it made me a bit weary, but I managed to do it and retrieved
the SVN versions I needed and compiled them to test, so using the same options above
on the last three, the final list is:
4347 Save works
Skipped 4357,4371,4384,4395 (most likely working after testing 4405)
4405 Save works
4415 Save works
4425 Save works
4435 Save works
4437 Save works
4441 Fails
4442 Fails
4445 Fails
4446 Fails
4460 Fails (current build from website)
For good measure: 4519 Fails (highest build I could get)
Oh, and thanks to flow for the info on how to retrieve specific SVN versions. And the
guy who did the tutorial for compiling yourself (it was obviously written well
because I succeeded).
Well I'll be damned, 4526 seems to be working!
- Status changed from New to Fixed
I am currently using the latest revision and still can't get passed the save option.
Game will freeze when choosing both save and not to save...
This happens to me on 3.0 as well.. What the heck is this? On 4526 it saves fine, but it runs SO much slower. On 3.0, it runs so smooth, but no save. This is horrible! Please fix this!!!
this happened to me when my loaded save state existed prior to a hard save. load up the game from the hard save and you should be fine.
Sorry for raising the dust, but I have a question. I have encountered the same problem as OP however have already progressed far into the game. Is there any way to resolve the save issue while retaining my save of the game?
Hi Guys,
I know I am necroing this, but I have an important work around to note,
Save state corrupts the memory card data so that it freezes when entering a cave or trying to save....
A work around is to create a save state....
Then delete your memory card data (you may want to back it up first)
the game will then create a new save file that is not corrupt at next save.
