Description

  1. Game Name and ID (as it appears in right click > properties: "GZ2P01",
    "RSBE01", etc):

Tested with Wii games SMNP01 and RMCP01.

1) What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected framerate is that of r7624 and previous to release 3.0

2) Did the game ever work correctly (i.e. not have this problem) on an
earlier version of dolphin?
(If so, please specify the latest revision that worked.)
Yes, r7624

3) What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. Checkout/compile 7628 (first rev that will compile in Linux after 7625)
  2. Run a game using OpenGL
  3. Observe lower framerate

4) What version of dolphin are you using (32bit/64bit along with the
version as it appears in the title bar: "R 4779", "R 6403M", "3.0", etc)?
On what operating system, drivers, and hardware? Be sure to list OS,
graphics driver information, and video card model if you are having
graphics problems, for example.

Dolphin r7628-Release. Issue persists through latest rev.
Ubuntu 10.04 Maverick x64
AMD Phenom(tm) II X3 720 Processor
nVidia GeForce 8800 GT (260.19.06)

5) Please provide any additional information below.
I inititally noticed the issue when checking out the latest rev. I noticed performance in many games drop 10-20% over 3.0 release. I did a quick-sort on revisions and narrowed the issue down to r7625, which included many graphical system changes. In fact, this issue may very well already be known, but I wanted to make sure you were aware of the performance differences that occured in Linux.

Examples:
---SMNP01---
r7624 - I get 100% at the title screen (includes gameplay elements)
r7628 - I get 85% at the same screen

---RMCP01---
r7624 - I get 56% at the race selection scree (includes gameplay elements)
r7628 - I get 48% at the same screen

Other settings:
Dual Core On
Idle Skipping On
JIT Recompiler
Lock Threads to Cores
HLE Emulation
Audio Throttle On
OpenGL
Native Resolution, No AA, 1x Filtering
Skip EFB Access from CPU On
EFB Copies from Texture
Texture Cache Accuracy one notch from the right
Everything else is unchecked or default

Please let me know if I can provide any other info! I'm really happy with the performance pre-7625 but I'd love some of the newer features that are being released too. If this bug is entered improperly or is a known issue, please let me know.

Thanks!

Upon further investigation, it appears that this is especially (and perhaps only) affecting games that require the External Frame Buffer to be enabled. New Super Mario Bros in particular, which needs EFB set to Virtual, suffers a 15-25% hit in the revs after 7625. Other games that either do not need the EFB or make minimizal use of it, like Goldeneye 007, seem to run as fast or faster than before. I will do some more comparisons and post results here.

Game ID | % speed in r7624 | % speed in 7695 (latest)
GoldenEye 007 (SJBP52) | 46% | 52%
SSX3 (GXBP69) | 88% | 88%
No More Heroes 2 | 53% | 56%

Looks like in other games, there's been either no change or a slight increase. However, New Super Mario Bros in specific is having issues. I'm not sure what other games I have that rely heavily on EFB, but that seems to be the deciding factor.

Again, let me know if I can provide any more info!

This appears to be a dupe of issue 4661, sorry that I did not see it before.
