The hwtests project currently doesn't support running tests separately which could be solved by using GoogleTest.

Potential problems:

PPC architecture not officially supported (https://code.google.com/p/googletest/issues/detail?id=409)
devkitppc toolchain
send stdout over network, OCR from screen output would be quite a roundabout approach ;)
