Description

Game Name: Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door - G8ME01

First off, I never had any problem with this game until now. The game DOES become slow during some scenes, but never really an issue. But after starting chapter 5, and entering the grotto, Dolphin would stop working, and the game would crash! I use Dolphin 4.0

I've done what I can to make it work, but no success at all. I tried to change the speed from fast, to safe, use JIT Recompiler, disabled cheats, no framelimit, use OpenAL with the latency of 2. The game runs on 640x480, with the ratio "stretch to window". I used the processing effect at 16bit, then 32bit, changed the internal resolution to window size, tried EFB copies to texture, then RAM, disabled/enabled the external frame buffer, and fast dept calculation

I use Windows 7, 1.50 GHz, 4.00 GB of RAM (3.48 usable), 64-bit

Can confirm, at least for that save file.

4.0-5285 here.

I got the most updated version of Dolphin. Still have the same problem.

Tested on 5254, could not reproduce.

If you use freelook hack and move back quite a bit, will it not crash anymore? I got crash in sewer as well. I managed to get away with freelook. The water reflection is probably the cause of this crash. I was able to enter the Grotto as well and apparently the water reflection is in there as well!

Oh, forgot to mention that this seem to be a problem on D3D backend.

I tried this on both OGL and D3D. Couldn't reproduce.

I don't know what you mean when you say "water reflections" I don't see anything reflected in the water.

Like this

if you look too close at it with freelook it WILL crash.

Tried what you said. No crash: http://i.imgur.com/q3yDwfZ.png

Does the crash happen all the time, or only sometimes?

It crashed, every time I entered Pirate's Grotto. And @#4, what water reflection? o.o

Hmm.. It could be a bad dump. Right click the game -> properties -> Info -> Compute MD5 Checksum. Search for the checksum on google. If you don't get any results, the dump might be bad.

Other than that, you mentioned the game working before. Has the pirate's grotto ever worked?

Also, you can try deleting the config files for dolfin to reset all the settings. Back them up if you want.

No longer crash when 1x native internal resolution.

@9 I already posted url earlier about what I meant by "water reflection".

I did the checksum, and I got d13426a926055be11a8330b27fe231ea

And it's the first time I played the 5th chapter on Dolphin, so yeah. Been having issues with the pirate's grotto since the beginning

I also deleted the config files, started over, and the game still crashed when I tried to enter the grotto >:\

That's a clean rip. Can't think of anything else except maybe an issue with your hardware, but I'm not a developer, they might be able to help you more.

Have you tried freelook and move back the camera before entering?

I already tested with new Dolphin profile and it worked (at least in sewer)

I just found out that D3D + any internal resolution other than "1x Native" will crash.

First bad build is 4.0-4555

Might be a duplicate of issue 8011.

I did the freelook thing, and it actually worked, but now my game is going reallyyyyy slow

Must be the case with HW bbox.

Maguma found an existing issue for this, so we're good.

The chapter actually went smoothly! I completed it, and ready to go to the next chapter. Thanks!

  • Status changed from New to Duplicate

Because this issue report is so barren, and doesn't list the full specs of the computer or anything (since graphics card would be the primary thing to look at), I'm just going to combine it with issue 8011.

I'm running into the same problem again, but this time with chapter 6, when Dolphin suddenly stops working. The game crashes after the train conductor wants me to find the stowaway on the train (the blanket issue), whenever I open the door. I tried the freelook hack, but it didn't work. In case I need to state my video card, it's an AMD A6-3420M APU with Radeon(tm) HD graphics, with 1.50 GHz

Here's the state save: http://www.filefactory.com/file/3ystbloflm5x/G8ME01.s01

(I'm not sure if I should report my problems here still, or to issue 8011)
