Emulator Issues #10452
openUsing any of Dolphin's LLE DSP Engines replaces some of Pikmin's random startup noises with a weird noise.

Description
Game Name?
Pikmin
Game ID? (right click the game in the game list, properties, info tab)
GPIE01
What's the problem? Describe what went wrong.
Well when you launch Pikmin you are treated to one of three sounds:
Pikmin!
Sound of a Pikmin finding a bomb rock?
Sound of a Pikmin being dismissed by distance?
DSP HLE plays these all correctly but DSP LLE does not
With DSP LLE you get this:
Pikmin!
And apparently the Japanese version's startup sound?
It sounds like some sort of weird noise I have no clue?
What steps will reproduce the problem?
Keep relaunching Pikmin with DSP LLE until the random number generator decides to play something other then the normal "Pikmin!" sound.
Please Note: Dolphin seems to REALLY REALLY like to play mostly the Pikmin! sound so it might take a bit.
Is the issue present in the latest development version?
Yes, 5.0-5084
What are your PC specifications? (CPU, GPU, Operating System, more)
Tested on:
Windows 10 Pro
Intel i7 3970X
Nvidia GTX TITAN
Is there anything else that can help developers narrow down the issue? (e.g. logs, screenshots,
configuration files, savefiles, savestates)
The wrong sound is apparently the Japanese version's startup sound?

Have you tried using single core? This sounds like a timing issue doing something naughty.

But seriously, I'm not entirely sure how to look into this. If I can confirm it, I'll accept it, but there's a chance it'll sit here for a good while until someone turns up to work on LLE audio.

I think it is always better to notify you guys about an issue then never at all :P

Absolutely. Rather have a bunch of valid issues sitting here for people to look through than nothing at all.

Not to worry, I think I might have found a couple more :P but I like to try a lot of things out to get the whole picture before reporting them.

Is this an issue when using the official Nintendo DSP ROM?
Updated by LizardPikmin over 7 years ago
I only using the one shipped with dolphin but, but if stick the game disc in my Wii and keep restarting I can't get it to play that sound.

If you have access to your Wii, can you use a homebrew to rip the Nintendo DSP files off and try those? Should be fairly painless to do nowadays.

Will do when I have the time, want me to test it on the ripped DSP too?
Updated by JMC4789 over 7 years ago
That's the idea. If the Nintendo DSPs have the same problem, it means the bug is internal to Dolphin.

Okay, I'm able to reproduce this issue with both Dolphin's ROM and the official ROM.
Interestingly, when using DSP-LLE with the CPU Cached Interpreter I haven't yet heard any of the alternate startup sounds.

Definitely some kind of timing issue then...
Updated by LizardPikmin over 7 years ago
It could be an internal issue because why would 2 of 3 sounds become the same odd sound? I would think a DSP issue would just make the correct sound sound distorted but also interestingly enough I have seen people talking about how a scratched disc might make this issue happen on a console but I don't really want to volunteer my disc to test that :P
Also I have seen some builds of Dolphin refuse to play anything other then just the Pikmin! sound.
Also even the newer builds of dolphin seemingly likes to only play the Pikmin! sound and rarely the other 2, but on my Wii tests it is more commonly played for me. So maybe it is an RNG issue? I have also seen something like this in Pikmin 2 but not with sound where the Press Start text rarely goes Right to Left but loves to go Left to Right.
I will go test the CPU Cached Interpreter too.

Not being able to edit it annoying lol. the Pikmin 2 text loves Right to Left but not Left to Right I got my directions mixed up :P

- File pikmin_startup_weeeh.wav pikmin_startup_weeeh.wav added
Is this still an issue? Using the DSP LLE recompiler, I can get three startup sounds: "pikmin", "ahhhh", and "weeeh". I've attached the rare ones.
