Emulator Issues #1126
closedSonic Adventure DX - Closes Dolphin after the cutscene is done after the first Chaos battle
0%
Description
What steps will reproduce the problem?
- Load up Sonic Adventure DX
- Create a Game Save if you haven't already (must be new to get to the
cutscenes - Play as Sonic
- Skip the first two cutscenes, they don't crash anymore
- Finish the boss fight with Chaos 0.
- End the cutscene after the boss fight by pressing start
- Dolphin closes automatically with no error message or anything
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect to view the cutscene with Sonic sitting on a chair taking a nap
while Tails crashes to his death near the Hotel Pool area in Station
Square. Nothing, it just crashes once you skip the previous cutscene.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Windows 7 x64 RC - Dolphin x64 R3769
Please provide any additional information below.
This is another problem that's devestated Dolphin users for maybe years. I
don't remember this ever working, and this is the only problem the game
has right now. It seems to work for cutscenes that allow the player to
resume playing after the cutscene has ended without any map change or
position change. It may have something to do with loading the NPCs on the
map or something, or it may have something to do with Dolphin not able to
recognize when the game is changing maps for cutscenes. Not sure about
this one. This is the ONLY issue (apart from speed of course) that's
stopping Sonic Adventure DX from being perfect and has always existed for
as long as I can remember.
The only way to avoid the issue is to get a complete game save - but
that's no fun is it? :P

I have to add, this is the non-IL version of Dolphin. Dual Core/Idle
Skipping/Cheats/HLE Bios all the time/JIT dynarec/Lock threads to cores/Optimize
Quantizers/and LLE DSP on thread are all enabled.
I'll try fiddling around with these settings, but I remember them giving the same
result. :(

A savestate for those who are lazy. Just press start while using JIT and it'll crash
Dolphin.
Also, this problem doesnt occur with interpreter mode. However, it still occurs even
with JITIL.

I doubt that savestates will prove anything because they can throw variables into
the outcome of things. I tried it myself with R 4033 and this problem still occurs.
Interpreter (LLE?) gets you by though, which is a life saver. To pass that part I
saved a state right after the cutscene, restarted in interpreter, waited for the
save point, restarted in dynarec, and loaded from the Adventure menu. After you do
that Dolphin loads the Tails cutscene just fine.
If this hasn't been fixed by now, I'm not sure it ever wil be. But doing the steps
above will get you through. It's just a bit of a hassle.
