Emulator Issues #4107
closedRESIDENT EVIL 0 (GC) - OpenGL plugin doesn't show in-game graphics (grey screen) (Windows only)
0%
Description
What's the problem?
Playing Resident Evil 0 (GameCube version) using the OpenGL plugin has become impossible, because the in-game screen is almost completely grey.
Dolphin version with the problem (as it appears in the title bar, Ex.: "R
4779" or "R 6403M"):
For sure r7081 and later
(optional) Dolphin version that does not have the problem:
r7063 is the last working revision that I have, but unfortunately I couldn't find any build between r7063 and r7081 to test.
Operating system and version:
32-bit or 64-bit:
WindowsXP SP3 32-bit, Intel e8400, Ati Hd4850
Game ID (as it appears in game properties, Ex.: "GZ2P01" or "RSBE01"):
GBZE08
Build command-line (not on Windows):
Was the ISO a plain dump from disc, compressed and/or scrubbed?
Plain dump
Please provide any additional information below.
Dx9 plugin hasn't got this problem and works well.
As you can see from the photo, the screen with OpenGL is almost completely grey, like there was an immense "London fog" all over the place.

OpenGL its totally destroyed for this games.
Updated by hatarumoroboshi over 13 years ago
I don't know if it's the same issue, because I don't use pixel lighting and/or force bi/trilinear filtering...

I'm glad that the Wii version works well, but this issue is for the OpenGL plugin in RE0 GC and this problem could maybe affect other games as well...
Updated by hatarumoroboshi over 13 years ago
RE0 Wii version is affected as well and RED STEEL 2 has a similar problem: using OpenGL plugin and turning around you often get the screen completely or partially yellow (like a dense yellow fog - see attached foto).

Exact revision which caused this issue would be highly appreciated...
Updated by hatarumoroboshi over 13 years ago
The problem is that in the archive of Mamario's site there's a "hole" between r7063 and r7081...so i don't know where to find those missing revisions...
Updated by NeoBrainX over 13 years ago
Guess you'd need to compile stuff yourself then.. :/

Don't have any idea how to do it, I think it would be easier for me to fly to the moon and back:-S
Updated by hatarumoroboshi over 13 years ago
With this r7427M the problem is the same, still grey screen at the beginnning of the game (in the train) using OpenGL. Cannot test Red Steel 2 because real Wiimote (I have a Wii remote plus) is still broken in this game).

Delete the previous one and try instead this one: http://www.mediafire.com/?kzymybzl8ldiug6

Yes, with the last one (r7427y) it works!

Nothing special.
It's a Cg problem (Windows version only).
July release: just this one is the most compatible version with Dolphin source.
November breaks (it's buggy also). Dolphin currently has it.
February fixes pixel lighting regression introduced in November's release.
hataru has tried&tested respectly, first February release, and after July.
Mac version is blocked to July.
Tonight I've a scheduled commit, if you want I can include a Cg updating(back to July) as well, otherwise if you wish to commit it yourself and/or decide in IRC... no problem.
Updated by NeoBrainX over 13 years ago
Why was the Mac version blocked to July again?
I'd rather update to February rather than downgrading if possible...

Why was the Mac version blocked to July again?
Soren has reverted to back July release just for these problems, I think.
The main point was/is, while some code pieces, maybe, should be readapted to new releases, others nope, because, really was a bug introduced from the framework.
Discuss this with soren and decide if, waiting for the next major release of Dolphin, is better to upgrade or stay with july.
Anyway, with February, it requires a minimum(!?) reworking, I think.

Star Fox Adventures is another game affected by this bug (almost everything is light blue)

They both work fine here
Updated by hatarumoroboshi over 13 years ago
Are you kidding? As you can read from the title it's a WINDOWS only problem.
Updated by Anonymous over 13 years ago
I guess you've missed the past 10 years or so, but that's what windows looks like now, champ.
Updated by hatarumoroboshi over 13 years ago
I thought you used Linux (never used it, so for me it could be similar to Windows, at least I hoped so:-))
Anyway here on WINDOWS XP SP3 32-bit (as you can see from the attached image) OpenGL still doesn't work (r7514).
Updated by hatarumoroboshi over 13 years ago
Don't know why, but while the "standard" version of Dolphin is still broken, the "texcache-rewrite" version instead doesn't show this problem.
Updated by MofoMan2000 over 13 years ago
I don't have this issue in r7528 on my Geforce 8800GT.
http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php?quickkey=xn92lakb6tqaxtq&thumb=5 Hopefully the image isn't broken.
This isn't the texcache-rewrite branch either, it's from trunk.

The link is broken and you didn't mention what OS you're using.
Updated by Sonicadvance1 over 13 years ago
His link works fine here, and it's Windows XP 32bit apparently.
This still have problems for people?
Updated by hatarumoroboshi over 13 years ago
Still broken here (r7584 - WINDOWS XP 32-bit)
Updated by hatarumoroboshi over 13 years ago
Yes, now the link works, but I don't think that is WINDOWS XP because I have a top blue bar while that one is grey (like the one of godis)...

This looks a lot like some radeon driver issues I was having with eduke32 a few months ago (enabling a high res texture pack with texture filtering results in white or grey boxes instead of textures ONLY on radeon cards with ogl4.0 drivers. Older drivers work fine). I also get these errors in Starfox Adventures dolphin win7x64. If you roll back your drivers to before they added ogl4.0 support it may fix it(10-5?) I don't have the older drivers handy at the moment(limited internet).

There is a problem with Super Mario Sunshine too (x64/hd4670). Reverting
CG to july fixed problems.
Updated by LM1234 over 13 years ago
The same for Starfox Adventures and Resident Evil 0. Working ok with july (per
pixel lighting too). (Win7/64bit/hd4670)

This issue was closed by revision r7595.
Updated by hatarumoroboshi about 13 years ago
I don't know what this cg is used for, anyway the texcache rewrite wasn't affected by this problem, so I think now dolphin could be updated to the newer version (if this gives some benefit), otherwise don't consider this comment.
