What went wrong?
After playing for a while the music stopped and random garbage was played. Zelda SS was always known for rare sound loops but this bug is different and seems to appear in newer revisions only. Random garbage or misplaced sounds from the game are played constantly.
What did you expect to happen?
sound playing normally
What steps will reproduce the problem?
play for 30 minutes or so.
Dolphin Version:
3.5-336 x64 windows,
Did the game ever work correctly? In all 3.0 revisions sound worked fine.
Operating System and version:
Windows 7
Any other relevant information:
HLE audio, xaudio2 backend was used

Sometimes this starts after 5 minutes. Ramdom and misplaced sound effects and voices from the game are played non stop as if there would be some kind of sound pointer bug.
However this maybe not game specific, in NSMB Wii, I had the same problem with an older revision.

Tried it in 3.5-336. Played for an hour with HLE, never encountered any problems. Can you give some more settings? Frame limiter setting, revision, etc?

I experienced this several times in Lanayru Sand Sea and Lanayru Desert. Sometimes 5 Minutes after game play starts, sometimes after on hour. Random sound effects like voice voices or menu sounds start playing unexpectedly and endlessly, sometimes with the wrong speed applied.
Settings are Framelimiter=auto, 3.5-336 x64 windows, Dual Core = On, Idle Skipping = On. I'm halfway through the game right now and never had such problems with revisions before the GC NewAXHLE merge or OpenAL integration, although this is just a rough estimate and I did not have the time to test so far.
It seems to be the same bug as in NSMB Wii where Mario started talking random things from other situations of the game, but I was unable to reproduce this yet.

I can confirm that the same thing happens with Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Party 4 (RSBE01 and GMPE01 respectively).
With Mario Party 4, the issue happened after around 20/30 turns. An emulator restart and a savestate load fixed the issue. The sound would go to half volume and start to glitch out.
With Brawl, the issue occurs regularly. After around 5 minutes in a match, the sound issue occurs. Just glitchy audio, no volume drops. Restarting emulator and loading savestate does not work. I am forced to simply restart my emulator every time this happens.
For reference, the version I'm running is 3.5-395. The Brawl issues are non-existent in the public 3.5 version. I can't properly test Mario Party 4 since there was a different sound issue pre 3.5-78.
In short, I can confirm that there's garbage audio in a few games when using HLE (using DSound as backend).

Also happens with 3.5-518 in DKC returns. Seems to occur especially when emulation runs very slow. Random noise and crackling starts after playing for some minutes. In Zelda SS, it seems to happen preferably in Lanayru Desert, since currently sound seems to be fine in other areas. (Backend: Xaudio2, HLE)

I'm experiencing this issue too in Zelda SS running Dolphin 3.5-420 under Windows 8. It's happened throughout the game. I've tried with various audio settings but it always happens sooner or later. I will try to reduce my video settings a bit; maybe it's choking on something and the audio is getting out of sync?

Please help to test revision 3.0-793, which is the last revision before the Capcom Music Loop Change according to http://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-audio-glitch?pid=265860#pid265860.

@scientif: I just played that revision for about 3 hours -- no sound glitches. It did, however, crash as soon as I tried entering a Silent Realm (issue 5682). It would be nice if we could get both of these fixes on the same revision :-)

mnbayazit, would you please now try 3.0-796?
Updated by mnbayazit over 11 years ago
@skidau: Took nearly 3.5 hours for it to really fudge up, but it finally did (in rev 3.0-796). Although there was some scratching and glitchy sounds intermittently up until that point, that's when the infinite loop of random sounds kicked in.
Whatever changed in that revision broke it. I hope that's enough for you to narrow down the problem.
