Emulator Issues #7041
closedSamurai Warriors 3 - Story Mode - Video Cutscene Blackscreen Issue
0%
Description
Samurai Warriors 3
Game ID - S59P01
Creator ID - 0x01
What went wrong?
I tried to play the Story Mode (Musou Mode) with Nobunaga Oda, Masamune Date, Hanzo Hattori or Keiji Maeda. But the game freezes at VPS: 50-100% and FPS went from 50 down to 0.
What did you expect to happen?
I think the game tries to play a short video cutscene. It does not get through however. I tried different characters, but most of them have the same issue before even starting the first level of their story. I only got through with Masamune Date to the first Level and played it through, but at the second level it gets the same black screen issue.
What steps will reproduce the problem?
- Create a game file
- Go to the Story Mode
- Take one of the Characters and start the level that is available for you
- Wait for over 30 minutes and enjoy a blackscreen T_T (while I write this, I am still waiting and hoping for the game to respond...)
You can play Historical Mode and the Castle Challenge without problems. You can create characters, equip items and play Free Battle Mode, too. But the Story Mode itself seems off limits here...
Which versions of Dolphin did you test on?
I am using Dolphin 4.0.2.
What version of Dolphin used to work?
I don't know if the 4.0.0 version would work. I used 3.5 before I moved to the south and the game wouldn't even work on that in any way. Now I can play (even if it is a bit slow and the music slow-mo, but that might just be my PC)
What are your PC specifications
ACPI x86-based PC
Windows7 Professional
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU
E8500 @ 3.16GHz
RAM 4GB (3,19GB usable)
32 bit System
AMD High Definition Audio Device
Realtek High Definition Audio
ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series
64 or 32 bit Dolphin?
I use the 32bit version (so Dolphin x86) and did not change any of the standard settings at first. I tried different combinations later, but the issue still remained.
64 or 32 bit Operating system?
I'm using 32-bit Operation-System
Any other relevant information or links to logs:
I am thankful for any help that can be provided. This blackscreen issue seems to be very common these days. I will try using an older Dolphin version and see if the problem goes away.

1: Try using single core mode.
2: Try turning on RealXFB in "Hacks" within the Graphics Plugin.
3: Make sure your ISO is a good dump.
Updated by asthralfire about 11 years ago
That was fast ^_^
I try the first to, but I am not very well verced in the ways of ISOs. How do I know my ISO is a good dump or not?
Updated by JMC4789 about 11 years ago
Compare the hash to well known good dump. If it's a Wii game, I'm not 100% sure where to find proper hashes for them, I use redump.org for GameCube games and winmd5free for getting the hash of my ISO.
Updated by asthralfire about 11 years ago
So I tried the first two options, but neither of them makes a difference v_v
WinMD5Free says that the current MD5 checksum value of my Samurai Warriors 3 Iso is
"ed6f88a933b832a708d1049e3783c03e"

Okay, so I tried out different Dolphin Emulators, too.
3.0 - Same Result
3.5 - Same Result
4.0 - Same Result
This is really frustrating T_T

ashral_fire: Please verify the partition. Right click the game in the game list and click "Properties" > Click the "Filesystem" tab > right click on "Partition 1" and press "Check Partition Integrity".

Okay I did this and it said that it found no Problems o.o

It could be that the game just doesn't work properly in Dolphin.

Maybe the next Dolphin generation will be able to fix this problem someday =)
I will keep playing History Mode and so on to see if other problems occure or if I might be able to tweak the dolphin to get it working.
Thanks for the help so far. We might find a way to resolve this someday ^_^

There are a few things you could try. Can you try using the JITIL CPU core instead of JIT, and if that doesn't work, try using interpreter (it'll be really slow, but we mainly want to know if it freezes or not.)
Other than that, I don't know what we should try.
Updated by asthralfire about 11 years ago
Wow... When you said Interpreter was really slow - you weren't joking XD
FPS = 0 to 1
VPS = 0 - 4%
Never thought I could see a game playing slower on my PC than Deux Ex X_X
Yeah, but still no change... Neither JITIL, JIT nor Interpreter make a difference...
I tried skiping the Intro when the Story of the Character get's announced, but then I can still see it half faded and stuck in the window. So I am sure it is the video Cutscene that freezes the Story Mode.

I was thinking maybe this could be an ES_Launch thing... maybe it will work now on the latest development builds?

- Status changed from Questionable to Fixed
The game is working in another issue report. Good enough for me.
