Game Name?
Mario Kart Wii

Game ID?
RMCE01

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong in few words.
Performance is poor with internal res settings higher than native.

What did you expect to happen instead?
To run the same as earlier revisions.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
[Don't assume we have ever played the game and know any level names. Be as
specific as possible.]
1.Delete your shader cache set internal res to something other than native/1x -not sure if it matters but I had done this just before I started having problems.
2.Skip warning screens, press start on title screen select save and select 1 player.
3.Enjoy the crackling audio and sub 25 fps on the next menus and the game.

Dolphin 3.5 and 3.5-367 are old versions of Dolphin that have
known issues and bugs, so don't report issues about them and test the
latest Dolphin version first.
Which versions of Dolphin did you test on?
4.0 1594,1603,1609,1681,1769,1773,1788,1871

Does using an older version of Dolphin solve your issue? If yes, which
versions of Dolphin used to work?
yes 4.0-1603 and below work fine.

What are your PC specifications? (including, but not limited to: Operating
System, CPU and GPU)
Intel i7
Radeon 7950
creative x-fi titanium hd
16gb ram
win8.1 x64

Are you using the 32 or the 64 bit version of Dolphin?
64, this question seems out of date.

Is there any other relevant information? (e.g. logs, screenshots,
configuration files)

This may effect a lot more games than this one but this was easy to test quickly and its a popular one. FPS on this machine at 3x internal res in the menus hovers around 73 in earlier builds. It falls off to about 23 in the latest. D3d doesn't seem to be affected but I haven't had much time to play with it yet. Dolphin settings are pretty close to default except the internal res and fps counter let me know if more detail is required.

  • Status changed from New to Questionable
  • Relates to performance set to Yes

Unable to confirm stays at a crisp 73 fps regardless of internal resolution, and even with EFB2Ram it only drops to 56 fps at 4x IR.

Tested on 4.0-1869

It should be said that I tested on my NVIDIA GTX 760. I switched to my Radeon HD5850 just out of curiosity and...

still got nothing.

Did you use MSAA? This commit enables sample shading for the efb format change emulation.

Yes its the AA. Could have sworn I reset it to off before I started testing older revisions. That will teach me to submit an issue on my way out the door. Turned off AA and everything is nice and smooth again at 3xIR. 4.0-1603 is still fine with both 8xaa and 3xIR.

That's strange, my Radeon 5850 and NVIDIA GTX 760 don't react to the AA in OGL either :(. I wish I could confirm for you.

Hmmm yeah that is strange, I get reduced performance with each higher setting all the way up to 8x which was what I had left on.

  • Milestone set to Current
  • Regression set to Yes

I have this happen in another game. Now I'm perturbed.

I can't accept it yet due to not being able to reproduce it consistently, but I will set this to current milestone so it gets looked at soon.

  • Milestone deleted (Current)

Removing the milestone current, remaining questionable. I don't feel like this should block a potential release.

Can you decide whether to accept or wontfix this?

Not to resolv the framebuffer on format emulation may increase the gpu load as it will use per-sample-shading. Do you think it's worth to add an option how to handle format emulation + msaa? I don't think so.
