Description

Game Name?
Super Mario Sunshine

Game ID?
GMSE01

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong in few words.
Ever since version 4.0-4583, Super Mario Sunshine has crashed as soon as I attempt to load an in-game save (not a save state). This does not happen in 4.0-4577. It also only seems to happen with the D3D backend.

What did you expect to happen instead?
I excepted the file to load normally.

What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. Save your game in Super Mario Sunshine (my save is pretty far into the game)
  2. Reset Super Mario Sunshine
  3. Attempt to load your save

Dolphin 3.5 and 3.5-367 are old versions of Dolphin that have
known issues and bugs, so don't report issues about them and test the
latest Dolphin version first.
Which versions of Dolphin did you test on?
4.0-4577 is the last version that works for me, I've tested every version available on the download page since then, most recently 4.0-4654

Does using an older version of Dolphin solve your issue? If yes, which
versions of Dolphin used to work?
4.0-4577

What are your PC specifications? (including, but not limited to: Operating
System, CPU and GPU)
Windows 8.1 x64, Intel Core i7 4770k, NVidia GTX 780 Ti (Driver version 344.75)

Is there any other relevant information? (e.g. logs, screenshots,
configuration files)
I am using a Mayflash Gamecube to USB adapter to play Dolphin, if that makes a difference. Also, I play the game in Borderless fullscreen mode at 1920x1080.

Here is the exceptioninfo.txt from 4.0-4654 (broken):

Unhandled Exception

Try turning off cheat codes.

Actions #2

I do not have any cheat codes enabled, nor does disabling anti-aliasing make a difference.

Oh; sorry. I misread what you said was the last working version. We're looking into issues with that commit; so, please be patient; hopefully we'll have an update for you soon.

Hi, I have tested it with 4.0-4674 but it still seems broken. If I create a save state and use that to load, it works. The in-game load is still broken as of 4.0-4674, and still working in 4.0-4577. Maybe the problem is with the transition effect upon entering Isle Delfino? I'm still getting the same Unhandled Exception in 4.0-4674.

Everything is working for me right now in latest master. GTX 760 GPU, OpenGL and D3D.

Okay, I will just assume it's an issue that's specific to me then, although it's still strange. Did you try loading into a game with reasonable progress through the game? I can start a new game with no issues, but when I load my save, it crashes.

Is there anything I can send you (assuming you still want to look at this issue)? Otherwise, feel free to close this because you can't reproduce it. Thanks!

I'm not going to close this issue just because I can't reproduce it. Could you try going to My Documents/Dolphin Emulator and deleting the Shadercache folder.

Also make sure you're using as default of settings as possible and whatnot.

Thanks, I tried deleting the Shadercache folder and that didn't work, then I tried running Dolphin with an entirely new profile (all settings default except D3D and my memory card), and that didn't work either.

There was a new driver released today. Can you try that?

Actions #12

Updated by blabbermoutherish almost 10 years ago

I just checked for an update to the GeForce driver and I'm getting that my current version (344.75 released 11/18/2014) is the latest. Are you using a beta driver?

Actions #13

Updated by blabbermoutherish almost 10 years ago

Alright, I just tried it with the latest beta driver (347.09), still the same issue.

Later, I could provide the builds in between, would you be willing to try those and we can find out what breaks this game for you?

Actions #15

Sure, I'll do whatever you guys need me to do. Thanks!

Not sure if it's related but mine will randomly freeze on the spiral transition screen.

Now I crash on launch as well after updating to the latest Nvidia driver beta (347.09). Seems I'm crashing in Paper Mario Thousand Year Door when exiting the hallway connected to the left stone key room (going back to the room with pipe after grabbing the left stone key).

@videogame... does 4.0-4577 work fine for you and later builds are broken if that's the case then it's the same issue.

@OP I'll provide those build this evening.

Sounds good patrick, unfortunately I'm on vacation and don't have access to the machine this problem is happening on, but I'll report back when I can.

Just wanted to say I have the same issue, 4577 and up will crash on save file load on D3D only. Since my platform is different I thought I would post, Windows 8.1 x64, AMD Phenom II X4 955, Radeon HD 6800 (latest non-beta drivers). I’m also willing to test anything you need to resolve this issue.

I can confirm that with build 4.0-4889 that this issue is fixed at least for me (OP).

Good enough for me.

Actions #23

Updated by blabbermoutherish almost 10 years ago

Actually, sorry about that. It still seems broken on 4.0-4889, it just lasted a little bit longer than usual before freezing.

Hehe, that's fine. Interesting that it's taking time to freeze though.

It is very strange. Still broken on D3D, but working fine on OpenGL. , if you're still following this thread, will you send me the builds you would like to me to test so we can narrow down which commit caused this issue?

Hi there @OP.
Here are the 5 commits. You can test and see which introduces your issue.

This issue is an exact duplicate of 7999, and that one has more information. Should this one be closed/merged?

Actions #28

Updated by ZephyrSurfer almost 10 years ago

Did any of these builds work BTW. If none of them work we'll know then the first commit intoduces the error.

So can you check that and mention it on the other PR thamks.
