Emulator Issues #4408
closedWind Waker - Freeze after Links sister is taken away.
0%
Description
What's the problem?
Right at the beginning of the game after I "rescue" the girl in the woods, the game freezes right after Link's sister is taken away.
Dolphin version with the problem (as it appears in the title bar, Ex.: "R
4779" or "R 6403M"):
r7120M
(optional) Dolphin version that does not have the problem:
Operating system and version:Windows 7
32-bit or 64-bit:64-bit
Game ID (as it appears in game properties, Ex.: "GZ2P01" or "RSBE01"):
GZLE01
Build command-line (not on Windows):
I'm not entirely sure what this is...
Was the ISO a plain dump from disc, compressed and/or scrubbed?
Not sure. I couldn't dump it from the disc because I don't entirely know how nor do I trust putting those small discs in my PC. Just paranoid I guess. Got a friend of mine to copy the ISO onto a DVD and I transferred it to mine with a few other games.
PC specs in case they are needed:
i7 870
12GB DDR3 Ram
Geforce GTX 580
That should really be the only specs to effect the emulator so that is all I will list. Need anything else just request.

Try it with the latest svn version of Dolphin.

Issue remains unresolved after trying with r7436M. Tried various settings and different copies of the game to see if it was a bad copy. No go.

Issue 4505 has been merged into this issue.

Just an update, issue at THAT point was resolved in version r7483.. but then it does it again once you finish Forsaken Fortress and meet the boat dragon guy.

I have gotten far past both those parts with no issue, running windows 7 x64 with the latest release now, passed those parts 4 weeks ago with the latest release at the time. I have a compressed ISO of the game as well.

I am also having this issue. I have tried different copies of the game and three different versions of Dolphin, but they all freeze at the same point, right after your sister gets taken by the giant bird in the beginning, though once, it froze after I entered Orcan's(?) house, the guy who gives you the sword. Right now, I have version r7590.
PC specs:
cpu: i5 M430 (2.27 ghz, quad core)
4gb RAM
Geforce GTS 360M (yeah, it's a laptop)
1 gb video memory

Also experiencing this issue on a laptop (Dell xps 15)
cpu: i3 CPU M 380 @ 2.53ghz, quad core
RAM: 4GB
Geforce GT 420m (Using Dell Optimus drivers)
I wonder if the Optimus drivers have anything to do with this.

I have a similar problem with this game. However it is a little bit beyond this part, after receiving the Farore's Pearl from Great Deku Tree, the game doesn't play anymore (black screen problem). I am using dolphin R 7671.....
any help guys?
Updated by AnnonceCroissant over 13 years ago
On official 3.0 with a previous build savegame I just received the pearl from the deku tree with no problem... and did'nt encountered any freezing problem yet. (maybe a random crashes but that wouldn't reproduce).
CPU : windows 7 x64 AMD + ATI radeon hd 5770/4850

I think this is a problem with the x64 version of Dolphin. I had the very same issue, getting a black screen after the scene where Link's sister was captured. Didn't matter how many times I've tried, it happened again. I also tried build #7714 and no difference. I've tried for the first time the x86 version of build #7714 and voila! No problems, I could get past that scene. Though this time it got stuck on a black screen after boarding the ship and leaving the island. I've tried it the second time with the same x86 build again and this time it was ok.
My system is:
Windows 7 x64
i5 480M 2.66GHz
6GB DDR3 RAM
NVIDIA GT420M

I'll try this when I get home, and will update on results.

Confirmed. Works in x86, broken in x64.
Windows 7 x64
i3 M380 @ 253ghz
4gb RAM

My experience was before the "friends" pirates take the link sister to him gram ma, the "Phoenix" just appear the room starts to flood with water and then black screen of death. :( I really would like to know how to skip this.

To avoid any blackscreens in this game or in ZTP use limmitng by VPS or auto, cause sometimes if using fps limiter, after some scenes vps are running wild, and than game hangs with blackscreen
I just started a new game in another slot, and played until forsaken fortress just to be sure
This issue is invalid

Autor, limiting FPS does not work.
I still get a freeze at the end of almost every single cutscene in Wind Waker. I have tried a combination of nearly every setting there is, it is just random and the only way to get past is to reload and play through crap again.
Still happens latest 3.5 release.

I put the internal res on Auto(multiple of 640x528)
and i set the audio backend to No audio output and it worked.

I use the x64 version, but had similar issues with the x86 version. On the x64 version, it would freeze up following the scene after Link's sister was taken, unless I set the aspect ratio to "Auto" instead of "Force 16:9" or "Stretch to fit" (I haven't tested "Force 4:3" which is what "Auto" sets it to anyway). Haven't tried this for any other part of the game. "Stretch to fit" still works for x86 if you want widescreen still.

For anyone still experiencing this issue: It's already well-known that LLE Recompiler + no "DSP on Dedicated Thread" fixes this. Any other solutions listed here are snake oil and have a 0-70% chance of working.
If you're still having crashes/hangs with LLE + no "DSP on Thread", open a new issue.
