Description

What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. Bring up ToS: DotNW
  2. Go ingame
    3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The Wii Tales of Symphonia 2: DotNW works fairly well in Dolphin. Good
framerate, no crashes. 2D graphics seems to be all there. But it has
some very interesting 3D graphical glitches. I've provided links to some
images.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Vista 32-bit on Intel Duo Core 2 Extreme 2.93GHz with nVidia 8800GTXs

Please provide any additional information below.
It may be related to level of detail; the graphics will often change as
camera moves "away" and "toward", or as a character moves away from or to
the camera.

Sorry; forgot version: R1648

Another update: tested in r1697 (Xtreme2damax build). No difference. Did try the
graphic hacks (safe texture, etc); no difference. Also tried disabling progressive
scan and EuRGB60 mode.

Welcome to glitch town :P

Looks like it's caused by bad texture mapping in some pixel shader ("texture converter").

Did you try both the OpenGL and DirectX 9 plugins?

fixed in latest rev?

Try it again!

r1878 seems to have fixed this

I will test with 1878 once someone creates a public build for it; I can't compile
myself. I'll keep an eye out for it.

XTra.KrazzY: Unlikely this is fixed... One, I'm testing with the GameCube Tales of Symphonia, and two,
the texture coordinates are still broken even in the GameCube version. That fix was just for some safe
texture cache regressions from r1871.

I did try the GameCube Tales of Symphonia on Windows one time, though, and if I recall correctly, it
didn't have the texture glitchiness if I used the D3D plugin.

I've played the Gamecube ToS to the end in the emulator. I had very few if any
graphical issues (although I did have quite a few crashes; thank goodness for state
saves :-). I ran on Vista 32-bit using OGL with a nVidia 8800GTX.

The graphical glitches I was seeing in Gamecube ToS actually turned out to be a driver bug.

I've tested Wii TOS:DNW in r1880; same graphical issues. No change. I did tried
the various graphic hack options (safe cache, etc), but they seemed to make no
difference.

what about r1900?

Actions #13

Also very unlikely, as that was also a fix for a recent regression.

It's up to zenmanorg to tell us that :)

by the way, in order for safe cache to work you should enable it prior to booting up
the game

Just for completeness: tested in r1919; no improvement in graphics without or
without graphic hacks used.
