Description

Firstly, I'd like to thank everyone involved with the development of this awesome emulator! You guys are awesome and appreciated. I've been following the progress since fetus.

My request is to have the option to automatically initialize the Wii's system menu when launching a Wii game. This would give the console experience. Similarly how Dolphin has the ability to initialize the Gamecube's BIOS before running a game (instead of launching the game instantaneously, and losing some of the console experience). When launching a Wii game from the Dolphin UI, it'd be awesome to be able to have the Wii System Menu initialize, and then having the ability to launch the game from the disc channel, or do whatever.

In the Gamecube tab in Dolphin it has a "Skip BIOS" selection-- Perhaps Wii could have a "Skip System Menu"? I would like to have the full console experience.

We've had this issue before, and after some discussion we decided against it last time. The main reason for this is that our gamelist is in essence an HLE "system menu" for the GameCube/Wii

Your feature request definitely is reasonable, but, if no one implemented a straight up "Boot GC Bios" when that was brought up, I'm unsure that this will get implemented quickly either.

As far as my opinion: I'd be fine with it if it were implemented.

We already have "Launch System Menu" and "Change Disc" as two separate options... Just like on a real console :)

I demand a launch GameCube Bios option still >.>

Awww :( Is there any restrictions inhibiting this from being brought to fruition, or do you guys just not see it as being viable? Launching a game from the Dolphin UI would would essentially be like turning on a Wii with the disc already inserted. Having to manually change the "default ISO" each time isn't really seamless or worth the effort. It, of course, would be optional. Gamecube already has the ability to run BIOS prior to the game in Dolphin.

It's not that it can't be done, and I don't see any reason it wouldn't be merged if it was done. I think it's just a matter of someone doing it.

JosJuice, yes, but there's a lot of manual work being done. It could be as simple as double clicking a game. Think of double clicking a game as turning on the Wii with the disc already inserted.

Since you already have to navigate the System Menu and launch the Disc Channel and everything, I don't think right-clicking a game and selecting Change Disc is that much extra work. But sure, there would be some sort of point in adding an option like that.

Also, being able to use Change Disc before emulation has started might be nice.

I just thought it'd be awesome to make Dolphin capable of seamlessly emulating the console experience. This option would more accurately emulate the Wii as a console in general. The actual Wii doesn't boot directly into games. It just doesn't feel right without launching it via the disk channel. Dolphin already is capable of running the BIOS for Gamecube prior to the game.

Anyway, I'm just tossing the idea out there. I don't want to annoy you guys witht this. Happy Holidays. :)

It's not an annoyance. It's just a matter of finding someone who wants to implement the feature. I see absolutely no reason it would be rejected on any basis if it didn't involve someone having to make it.

tl:dr - Need to find someone who wants to make a feature like this.

Maybe instead of default iso it can be a channel shortcut? (like mariokart channel but launches auctual game instead of section)

I'm willing to pay someone to implement this. I'm desperate to get the full Wii experience with Dolphin. It shouldn't be necesary to set the game as "default ISO", then launch the system menu as it's own entity. It should be an option to be as simple as launching the game.
