Description

Game Name?
Pokemon Box: Ruby and Sapphire (USA)

Game ID?
GPXE01

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong in few words.
The game does not start/run on the latest version

What did you expect to happen instead?
The game to run

What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. Start the game

Dolphin 3.5 and 3.5-367 are old versions of Dolphin that have
known issues and bugs, so don't report issues about them and test the
latest Dolphin version first.
Which versions of Dolphin did you test on?
Specifically the latest development mode, 7345, and 7010 the first dolphin build that allows VBA-M to connect. The game works on 4.02 and up to 4.02-4875. After that the game gives lots of errors or does not start.

Does using an older version of Dolphin solve your issue? If yes, which
versions of Dolphin used to work?
The game runs on 4.02, however does not run on versions that allow GBA connection

What are your PC specifications? (including, but not limited to: Operating
System, CPU and GPU)
Macbook pro 2012 dual booted running Windows 7. Nvida Card.

Is there any other relevant information? (e.g. logs, screenshots,
configuration files)

With 7010, dolphin will connect to the latest version of VBA-M with every other pokemon game I have tried including: Colosseum/XD:Gale of Darkness, Colosseum bonus discs (American and japanese) and Pokemon Channel(EU).

Please narrow down the build that the game stopped running in.

I have narrowed down which dolphin build Pokemon box stops working in, Dolphin 4.0-2368 (64x). It is on Page 97 of the developers list. It says "DSP: latch dma parameters (PR #692 from booto)" for the change log.

page 97 can be found here: https://dolphin-emu.org/download/list/master/97/

Sorry about the long delay, getting used to the new issue tracker.

Does the game boot with LLE audio?

I tried LLE audio and LLE recompiler on dolphin 2368 and 7840 (my latest verison). Dolphin 2368 crashes immediately, 7840 crashes after credits.

Define crashes? Does Dolphin crash? Does the game hang? Is there any debug output?

Actions #7

Updated by Askmeaboutbirds over 9 years ago

2368: "dolphin.exe has stopped working," have to close with task manager

7840: game hangs, I should not have said crashes. Hangs on a black screen after credits

Actions #8

7840: with panic handlers on, output is Invalid read 0x90650152, PC = 0x80014c3c, goes on through various addresses

2368: gives no output, just crashes.

Interesting. Thanks. What happens in the builds prior to the crashes at startup? Does it still hang at the end game?

Actions #10

The game goes past the opening credits and plays normally previous to 2368 (http://puu.sh/lb2wY/a2f15740e1.png) this screen. Proceeds to the main game, which is a pokemon storage system for pokemon ruby and sapphire, the game is unplayable if you dont connect a gba (since 7010 Vbam-wx has been able to connect to dolphin with every game I have tried, listed above). So the game is only "playable" after 7010.

Is there anything specific or a specific way to get an output of errors? I feel like what I am doing is not very specific or useful for y'all.

  • Status changed from New to Questionable

Assigning to JMC to figure out what's going on here. We'd need a proper bisect to figure out what's broken (I don't really understand this issue report tbf).

This didn't work before the rewrite.

You can boot the game in LLE by using BIOS.

Actions #14

Updated by Askmeaboutbirds about 9 years ago

Booting with bios on 7010 and LLE worked once and now it goes back to black screen every time. Ill try more things in the mean time.

I might have the process for starting in LLE wrong? I only switched audio to LLE and unchecked Skip bios.

Actions #15

Updated by Askmeaboutbirds about 9 years ago

I have the game "working" I had a friend start up under LLE and Bios, he grabbed a savestate past the hang point after the first text appears.

After the hang point the game works perfectly and connects to VBA-m and allows depositing etc.

  • Status changed from Accepted to Fixed

This has been fixed and no longer happens. LLE audio works on JIT without needing the bios or anything special.
