Description

Hello,

I'm not sure this is a relevant bug, sorry if it isn't:

couldn't Dolphin be released in channels, like Google Chrome? People would choose "stable channel" or "dev channel" in the settings and depending on this, the emulator would automatically update regularly.

I'm aware that's a big feature, but it would be very handy.

I remember several people being in favor of a feature like this.

Certainly viable to do now that shader compilation issues are resolved for the most part. And we even have curl in dolphin now.

Would download server bandwidth be an issue? Delroth, Matt_P?

No. The issue is writing the actual update feature client side. It's far from trivial. Checking for updates and downloading an update package is trivial, applying the update is tricky.

We'd also likely want to move to a 3 phase system: dev (getting updates for each new dev build), testing (once a month, synced with progress report) and stable (no auto update, notification if a new version has been released).
