closedSince Dtk merge, audio has static in it
0%
Description
Game Name?
Super smash Bros Melee, Super Mario sunshine, LoZ Wind Waker, Luigi's Mansion, Kirby air ride, Pokemon Battle Revolution, Pokemon XD, Pokemon Colosseum, etc..
Game ID?
irrelevant
What's the problem? Describe what went wrong in few words.
Under dolphin's free Dsp lle rom and my real one that I dumped from my Wii, the samples are incorrectly ouputed and have static in them
What did you expect to happen instead?
No annoying static in sound
What steps will reproduce the problem?
Under DSP LLE listen for satic coming from the sound, I found LoZ : Windwaker was the easiest way of reproducing static in the sound
Dolphin 3.5 and 3.5-367 are old versions of Dolphin that have
known issues and bugs, so don't report issues about them and test the
latest Dolphin version first.
Which versions of Dolphin did you test on?
Builds since Dolphin-4.0-1970-x64 have the issue
Does using an older version of Dolphin solve your issue? If yes, which
versions of Dolphin used to work?
Yep, all of builds before the DTK merged into master did not have the issue
Builds 4.0-1963 and below work fine
What are your PC specifications? (including, but not limited to: Operating
System, CPU and GPU)
irrelevant
Are you using the 32 or the 64 bit version of Dolphin?
64
Is there any other relevant information? (e.g. logs, screenshots,
configuration files)
The DTK rewrite is the known culprit for this issue.

I swear I tested this in the PR. Will investigate further.

I have noticed increased crackling in sound. But I don't really think "static" is the right word. It sounds more like the audio is peaking out and crackling. While I have noticed it, I haven't been able to pin it down or get anything reproduceable yet.

The Crackling is form of static, technically. But I would think I should say that the samples are clipping very badly.

I was unable to determine it from the audio logs you posted. My speakers are awful, which probably contributed to it, but, it isn't the same problem I noticed when testing the PR, because I would have heard that.

Are you sure the dumps accurately represent your issue? I can't hear any difference either.
Updated by progamer96 over 10 years ago
uh you can't hear it? it's as clear as daylight for me, You should hear very clearly in the audiodump_DTK_new.wav file at 0:09 to 0:20 , that's one of the most obvious one.

- Status changed from New to Accepted
Yeah, it's more like clipping than static.
Listen carefully to the smooth higher pitched sustained instruments like the flute at 0:09 to 0:20. Once your ears lock onto it, it's easier to hear in other places.

- Regression set to Yes
- Category changed from dsplle to dsphle

I made a build without the dtk merge right here http://www.mediafire.com/download/e0cyb1j4jcxa416/Dtk_old.7z
I also found that when you boot up the project m loader it will running completly at the wrong speed, And my sound output is set as "Audio"
Updated by JMC4789 over 10 years ago
I can confirm that I'm hearing it too now. Narrowed it down to commit 1f604e87 of the DTK Rewrite branch via git-bisect. Hopefully other people's results mirror that.

Thanks for the diligent report, without that this issue likely would not have been handled so quickly.
