Description

Game Name?

Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader

Game ID?

GSWE64

MD5 Hash?

0bf391bee90da09d6042016d23e7a9b1

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong.

3D audio that is behind the player is silent when using DSP HLE.

What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. Launch RS2
  2. Select options on the main menu
  3. Select special features
  4. Select the highly convenient "audio test" option
  5. Observe that the tie fighter becomes silent when behind the camera

Is the issue present in the latest development version? For future reference, please also write down the version number of the latest development version.

Yes, 5.0-16350.

Is the issue present in the latest stable version?

Yes, 5.0, but be warned that DSP HLE is disabled by gameini in that version and overriding that WILL murder your ears during the introduction cutscene (#7228). This only applies to the intro, though; 5.0 can access the main menu and sound test without issue. (For RS3, the menu also has ear-murdering sounds, but the sound test is still fine.)

What are your PC specifications? (CPU, GPU, Operating System, more)

  • CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10750H CPU @ 2.60GHz, 2592 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical Processor(s)
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti
  • OS: Windows 10 Home 10.0.19042.1526

Is there anything else that can help developers narrow down the issue?

I've attached DSP dumps for RS2 with DSP LLE and HLE. This issue happens with all audio backends (though I mainly tested Cubeb), and happens regardless of whether Dolby Pro Logic II Decoder is checked for DSP LLE. This issue doesn't happen if the game's sound is set to mono (but stereo is the default). Rogue Squadron 3's sound test behaves correctly.
