What steps will reproduce the problem?
- Attempting to load the game
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
There's only a black screen when trying to play Alien Hominid the sound
works though, the site says that it has Perfect compatibility
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Rev. 4363 on Windows XP SP3
Please provide any additional information below.
Using Default settings on dolphin, I have 8400m GS NVidia Graphics Card

this problem is caused by the viewports settings in this game, it's the game so
far that i see that uses vieport Z values set to negative values all the time, for
ati this is not a problem, but nvidia seem not to suport this.

Not sure if it's same problem but gfx is ok (r6570), no black screens or such. But game runs weird. When frame limit is off fps goes up to 1200 even on my old machine (A64 3800+, 4Gb RAM, GF7950GT AGP, Kubuntu 10.04) but at same time i got vps below 20 and game runs like frameskip is set to 9. Same result on much more powerful machine - Core i7 with latest nV Quadro.

I am using r6594 and get black screens with the above mentioned fps/vps behavior.
Tested on 2 different pc configurations.
PC 1: AMD Phenom II x4 965 @ 3.2ghz, ATI Radeon HD 5770, Windows Vista x64
PC 2: Intel C2D e8500 @ 3.16ghz, nVidia GTX 285, Windows 7 x64

With my system using r6594 (as with every other revision that I've tried) the game starts perfectly (no black screen) and plays at 80% speed with Jit32 DC and 100% with Jit32IL DC.
(Intel e8400, Ati Hd4850, Windows XP SP3)

DX11 and OpenGL plugins work fine here, just dx9 that's broken.

Try setting up a projection hack in the game's properties (either use the ZTP preset, or set zFar Correction to 0.2 or 0.05), and see if you still get a black screen using the DX9 plugin.
If it works this way, then... could this issue be affecting "Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games" as well? (though I can't confirm rodolfoosvaldobogado's theory as I only have a NVIDIA graphics card...)

I think this is same problem:
black screen on loading, sound okay in dolphin 3.0-235
running Linux Fedora f15 x86_64, Nvidia Geforce gtx460
The game works perfectly in Dolphin r7723

Here's the complete info
regression is caused by changes in VertexShaderGen.cpp, but of course since rf78133f2 this part of code was changed maybe more than once, so here's a little beautifull partial revert patch, which doesn't conflict with recent changes.

In addition to your patch, can you try to enable two lines which are commented out in http://code.google.com/p/dolphin-emu/source/browse/Source/Plugins/Plugin_VideoDX9/Src/Render.cpp#722 ?

It seems my patch works for Issue 1702, fixes all sorts of issues in Choccobo Dungeon under DX9
