are you using a controller or a keyboard?
if you are using a controller try using brand new batteries.

XBOX 360 controller, both wired and wireless prove the same. Keyboard does the same thing

The same. I saw that this is not a new issue, several users reported this bug.

Disable "Idle skipping" to fix it ;)

It's not a full fix, but it does the trick. Thanks

Got be a slow computer thing - I have no drift issues with or without Idle Skipping. Using a Sandy proc.

Updated by sanchulo2 about 12 years ago

Strange, I also have a sandy, 240gt, 6gb ram
Perhaps a glitchy Rom.. I never tested other rips
What's the code number of your Mario kart Rom? Under properties.

GM4E01...and what do you mean you've never tested other rips?

Maybe a "not so good" game dump. I must check other Roms.

It proabbly has something to to with lag, which whould be why sandys have no problem, can Idle skipping be disabled via .ini?

I can confirm a Core 2 DUO 3.0 GHz has this bug, but an I7 3770 doesn't has this bug.

Possibly related to issue 960.

Issue confirmed on 1st-Gen i3, Idle Skipping on. Haven't tested with it off.
Though, I don't know if it would matter that this bug occurs even when the game isn't running full speed.

Disable idle skipping appears to fix this issue, however causing other issues with sound.

VPS goes through the roof, causing the sound effects and some of the music to play at increased speed. Something worth noting is that the only sounds that play at increased speed are those NOT affected by the sound bug of this game.

Core 2 Quad Q8300 2.5GHz, 4GB RAM, Radeon HD 5850 1GB

UPDATE:

Tested on latest version, 3.5-1320, disable idle skipping no longer fixes the problem. It appears to be worst when entering a turn. My previous test was on 3.5-1031.

The fast music/sound effects is no longer a problem when disabling idle skipping.

I double, triple and quadruple checked to make sure all settings were exactly the same.

Tested on D3D9 rendering, HLE sound, sound on thread, disabled idle skipping. DirectSound. V-sync enabled.

I was using a third party controller on my Wii while testing another glitch, and I managed to see this happen on Console. I was so excited that I plugged in my good controller, and alas, it doesn't seem to happen on first party controllers.

I was afflicted by this while playing Mario Superstar Baseball, it was really, really annoying and I just wanted to bump this issue because for a long time I was thinking it was mostly solved.

Hm, only happens on slow computers... Did anyone test this issue on single core?

Actions #23

Updated by JMC4789 over 10 years ago

It can happen on single core, but I was unable to reproduce in the latest builds when trying to retest it.

Is this still valid after the physics fixes in 4.0-2729 -> https://dolphin-emu.org/download/dev/ebf1b981067c7f92e60178325fee40f6f54e11c1/ ?

It appears to be some kind of timing issue. I wouldn't be surprised if this still happens. Can anyone confirm?

  • Status changed from Accepted to Fixed

No one confirmed; closing this issue unless someone steps and says I'm wrong. I'm unconvinced that this is 100% fixed; especially with Sonic Heroes will acting up in multiplayer.
